A step in the right direction for APNU

Dear Editor,

Last week the leadership of the Guyana’s People Partnership in a high level meeting at Congress Place met with A Partnership for National Unity leadership and officially signed on to APNU for the 2011 general elections.

The GPP believes this is a significant step in the right direction for APNU.  It is amazing to know that from observing the last election in Trinidad & Tobago and also in the United Kingdom, we see that coalition can be an effective tool in unseating a government and replacing it with a more efficient and transparent government.  A small idea formed from observing outside elections has resulted in something truly unique being established in Guyanese politics.

The concept of APNU is good for Guyana because it allows our nation to dream, aspire, and work for something better than we have now.

What the PPP is trying to do to Guyana is wrong.  Forcing a nation to endure one party rule for nearly twenty years is unacceptable. The Guyanese people hope and aspire to something better politically; a government for the people and by the people.  The GPP joining forces with APNU signals the end of the PPP administration.

Yours faithfully,
Derrick Harte
