Berbice will vote for Ramotar

Dear Editor,
With just a few precious days left tor the casting of national ballots, it is an opportune moment to scrutinize the election canvas and evaluate the possible outcome of the 2011 polls.

For certain, Berbicians in their colossal numbers are likely go with their traditional voting pattern and put their weight behind a PPP victory. This has nothing to do with racial voting, but the evident success the incumbent party achieved in delivering key services in all sectors: housing, water, security, roads, schools, hospitals, electricity, telecommunications, and sea defences. These developmental accomplishments have impacted immensely on the lives of Berbicians in every district.

The recent rallies sponsored by the PPP are testimony to the mammoth support the party enjoys. With Donald Ramotar at the helm, and promises to clean what appear to be the blemishes of recent scandal, he has elevated himself to the status of an icon of honesty and personal integrity. His rural simplicity, easy access and strong links with the common folk are assets that would ensure his triumphant journey into the Office of the President, Indeed many renowned and incisive critics of the PPP administration have openly conceded that Mr Ramotar is a man of his word and his commitment to transparent government has considerable merit. The candidate’s trustworthiness is without doubt unassailable.

No one is known to possess a monopoly on knowledge and wisdom. Mr Ramotar is neither infallible nor perfect. But like good leaders everywhere he will address those inadequacies by recruiting a team of expert advisors selected on the basis of competence, suitability and character. His management capabilities would be bolstered by his pledge to open his arms to accommodate ideas, suggestions and proposals from the opposition camp. This unique attribute  to embrace compromise, dialogue and negotiations is characteristic of sterling leadership.

If we go by Donald’s name, we can expect a lot of great things to happen. The name Ramotar, is an anglicization of the Hindi appellation ‘Ram‘ and ‘Avatar.‘ I do not attribute divine qualities to Donald, but I am sure he would live up to the expectation of what his name signifies.

Let the rancour of electioneering pass; let the uncertainties of the polling season recede into the sunset; let the divisiveness of politics wither into the dust of oblivion. Let a new flower bloom; let a new dawn salute the nation with radiant hope; let Donald Ramotar wear the crown of victory; let Guyana step on a rollercoaster ride to prosperity, peace, harmony and ethnic unity.

Let the past remain the past, and the future take wings to lift this nation to conquer new horizons. We the people of Berbice want, need and desire Mr Donald Ramotar.
Yours faithfully,
Narendra Nauth Loknauth
