This is the era for consensus politics

With minority government the stage is now set for Guyana to move speedily into a new political era. New dispensation politics will be characterized by consensus mechanisms and meaningful participation in the national decision-making processes. This new consensus approach will put Guyana firmly on the road to recovery in social, political and economic terms. To build this consensus architecture it is imperative that the arms of government be shared. This will include the cabinet (ultimately), government boards and commissions and our diplomatic representation. All these decision-making pillars are needed to build a strong consensus architecture.

On November 28 the Guyanese people spoke making it clear they no longer want winner-takes-all politics. They made it clear they will no longer tolerate dicta and the imposition of one-party self-serving rule.

Guyana belongs to all of us and must be run by those we trust to represent us not just a minority. Naturally there will be those who object to this march to democracy and good governance. These status quo devotees should be unmasked and handed over to the masses for tweaking or digital remastering.

Yours faithfully,
