Meusa, Boucher among the leaders

Former national chess champion Wendell Meusa is among four players in the lead at the end of the third round of the senior category of the Trophy Stall tournament which is being held at the Kei-Shars Sports Club, Hadfield Street.

It is Meusa’s first tournament since being banned for six months by the Guyana Chess Federation.

Meusa had claimed that he had not been told of the start date nor completion date of the ban and yesterday he referred this newspaper to the Guyana Chess Federation when questioned as to whether he had been given the green light to resume competing.

Boucher, a Rice Quality Consultant, was the winner of the RRT-sponsored one-day rapid chess tournament held last month.

The four players are all on two and one half points.

Alexander Duncan, brother of former national players Aggrey and Trevor, and Rodwell Poole follow with two points each.

They are followed by Errol Tiwari, Chino Chung, Haatran Parbat and Glenford Corlette with one point each.

In the key matches Nathoo and Meusa played to a draw while Khan and Boucher also drew their first round clash.

Over in the junior competition, Rashad Hussain leads with the maximum four points after four rounds.

He is trailed by Saeed Ali and Shane Yussuf who have three and a half points each while Khalid Gajraj, Anthony Drayton, and Davion Mars are on three points.

Feng and Raan Motilall are on two and a half points each while Aslam Hussain, Raberto Neto, Joshua Pedro, Harresvera Persaud, Viddesh Shameer and Vaugh Moses are on two points each.

The tournament continues this Sunday.
