Unbeaten Emanie captures title

The Emanie Netball Club upheld its reputation as Guyana’s leading netball club with an unbeaten performance on their way to winning the two-day Sherwin McKenzie mixed teams competition held last weekend at the National Gymnasium.

Emanie blazed through all of their matches to end the competition with the maximum 10 points securing three wins on Saturday and two on Sunday in the double round competition.

Occupying the runner up position was the All Stars Netball team, with two wins and a draw for five points while the Eagles Netball Club placed third.

The competition which saw male and female players competing together also saw the participation of the Rim Rockerz Netball Club.

According to netball coach Lavern Fraser-Thomas, the team dropped out of the competition after their performance on the first day, citing injuries sustained by some of their players.

On Saturday, Emanie dismissed All Stars, Rim Rockerz and Eagles in easy fashion.

All Stars went under 9-40 with Carnecia Perreira scoring 18 goals and Angeline Dyer 10 and DaCoata Lucius three goals.

Against Eagles Emanie won 21-6 with Perreira scoring 17 goals.

Eagles’ top shoot was Shavana Williams with three goals.

Emanie then brushed aside Rim Rockerz 24-8.

In other results Eagles and All Stars played to a 24-24 tie with Sherwyn McKenzie scoring 10 goals for Eagles and Simonica Fanfair nine for All Stars.

All Stars edged past Rim Rockerz 17-13 with Fanfair scoring six  goals for All Stars, while Shameeza Subrattie netted 5 goals for Rim Rockerz.

On Sunday’s final day of competition Emanie scored two wins against All Stars and Eagles.

Emanie defeated All Stars 32 – 16 and won 38-20 against a much improved Eagles side while All Stars edged Eagles 29 – 28.
