WICB Four-Day Regional Tournament… Guyana overtakes Barbados on points table after draw

Guyana secured a draw against Barbados on the final day of their West Indies Cricket Board Regional Four-Day tournament at the Providence National Stadium, and in the process moved up one space ahead of them.

The home side claimed first innings points in the drawn encounter, adding six points to their accumulated seven to reach a tally of 13 while Barbados added just three points to their nine to reach 12. The teams are now sixth and seventh on the points table.

Guyana will now face third place occupants, England Lions who have 24 points, from March 11 – 14 at the Providence National Stadium while Barbados clash with Winwards who are fifth with 19 points at the Kensington Oval on the same dates.

Yesterday, Barbados reached 87 – 4 in 53 overs in their pursuit of the 292 run target set by Guyana for victory.
Scores in the match: Guyana – 303 and 163 – 9; Barbados – 202  and 87-4.

Guyana resumed yesterday on their overnight score of 90 – 4 with Royston Crandon on 15 and Vishaul Singh on nine.
The pair added a further 21 runs before both batsmen fell with the score on  111.

Crandon was first to go bowled by Kevin Stoute for 30 while  Singh edged a delivery from Pedro Collins to Roston Chase at first slip for 15.
Collins picked up his third wicket when Derwin Christian gave Chase his second catch of the day with the score on 117.

But Christopher Barnwell and Veerasammy Permaul added 24 runs for the eighth wicket before Jason Holder struck with a delivery that beat Barnwell all ends up to stop him on 11.

The last wicket  pair of Permaul and Brandon Bess added 22 runs.
Rain interrupted play at 11.36am and sent the players to an early lunch.
Play eventually resumed at 1.15pm  and Barbados skipper Ryan  Hinds removed Permaul  for a fighting 24 leaving  Bess unbeaten on 12.
In the Barbados second innings Dale Richards and Kraigg Brathwaite each made 13. Richards was the first to depart with the score on 16 then  number three Kyle Hope was bowled by Leon Johnson to leave Barbados at 25 – 2.

When Brathwaite, the other Bajan opener and captain Ryan Hinds (03) were removed early after tea in the final session the Guyanese side began tightening the noose despite the absence of Davendra Bishoo who was drafted into the West Indian World Cup team yesterday.

They began pushing for the outright win, but even with the use of part time bowlers  Johnson, Assad Fudadin and Gajanand Singh, Guyana could not make further inroads.

Stoute, though  and Chase stood firm for Barbados and were left unbeaten on 24 and 18 respectively.
