The Berbice Schools Table Tennis competition, organized by the steering committee of the Berbice Table Tennis Sub-Association is scheduled for Saturday at the Berbice High School Auditorium.

The tournament is slated to begin at 09:00 hrs and so far over 60 entries have been received from players drawn from schools throughout East and West Berbice.

The competition is open for schoolchildren and those attending a tertiary institution in Berbice. It is being sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and will be played in five male and female categories. These categories are Under-10, Under-13, Under-15, Under-18 and Under-21.

Trophies and other incentives will be presented to the top three finishers and other outstanding participants will also be rewarded.

Representatives from the Ministries of Culture, Youth and Sports and Education along with the regional administration are expected to be in attendance along with GTTA General Secretary Godfrey Munroe and National Coach Linden Johnson, who will be helping to coordinate the event.

The GTTA has committed to providing balls, scorecards and barriers for the tournament and will also be donating a set of balls, racquets, bowls and other training equipment to the Berbice Sub-Association.

Meanwhile, training sessions are continuing throughout the county at various venues in the afternoons with coaches  Desiree Lancaster, Gibran Hussein, school teachers Jermaine Glasgow and Cordell Austin, Floyd Conway and senior players in Berbice.
