GSKC stages successful grading exercises

The Guyana Shotokan Karate Club (GSKC), a member of the International Karate Diagaku (IKD) and an affiliate of the Guyana Karate Club (GKC),  held a grading session last Friday at the Malteenoes Sport Club (MSC) under Sheiki Shian Frank Woon-A-Tai.

The 11 students who were graded were: D’Andre Kirton, Quaison Tasher and Tabita Goolsarran who moved from 7th kyu Orange to 6th kyu Green.

Jordan Kong, Rasheed Khan-Guzman and Travis Heyliger moved from 8th kyu Yellow to 7th kyu Orange; Ameer Braithwaite, Nayman Gill, Orlando Britton, Maria Chin and 62-year-old Miriam Chin, the eldest Karateka in Guyana, skipped from 10th kyu White to 8th kyu Yellow.

There was also a grading of black belts by the GKC where Roger Peroune, Claire Martelly, Eric Hing, Terrence Nicholas, Jeffrey Wong, Guy Low, Lavern Jones, Chetram Mortley and Penny Jaipersaud all successfully completed their grading.

These nine students are from second to sixth Dan Black Belts.  According to the Guyana Shotokan Karate Club, their goal is to help set a structure that provides students with well-defined guidelines, equipping them morally, emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually for the everyday challenges.

Instructor Sensei Mark Phang took the opportunity to congratulate all the students on their success. Training days are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm at the Girl Guides Building, Brickdam.
