Rifle shooters fail to retain Caribbean rifle shooting crown

Guyana’s rifle shooters failed in their bid to retain the West Indies Full-bore shooting Short-range title, unconfirmed reports out of Antigua states.

Reports state that Guyana lost by four points to Jamaica but no scores were available up to press time in the championships staged for the first time in Antigua/Barbuda.

The short-range team match for the Anchor Cup was shot at 300, 500 and 600 yards ranges.

Ransford Goodluck

The Jamaican shooters, who did not attend last year’s regional championships in Barbados, proved to be in top form against the other competing nations Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Bermuda, Barbados and hosts Antigua/Barbuda.

The Guyanese were going after an unprecedented sixth successive regional short-range title.

Guyana’s rifleman also suffered mixed fortunes in the individual competition with only Ransford Goodluck the 2010 champion finishing in the top five.

Goodluck placed third behind Trinidad and Tobago’s Norris Gomez and Justin Lall.

The presentation of prizes was scheduled for last evening.

The Guyanese shooters are expected back home today.

Guyana will host next year’s West Indies Fullbore Shooting championships at the Timehri rifle ranges.
