Adams, Archer win junior, senior categories at Linden’s Rapid Chess tourney

Mackenzie High School student Jamal Adams accumulated four points from seven rounds to win the junior category while Malcolm Archer played unbeaten to win the senior category of the Kei-Shar’s sponsored One-Day Rapid Chess tournament held at the Linden Constabulary Recreational Hall on Sunday.

According to a press release from the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF), Adams won the junior category ahead of Shavin Greene on the tiebreaker after the two players ended with four points apiece.  Greene was trailed by Dameyon Wills, who also received his third place position based on a tie break.

Wills, ended the seven round tournament with three and a half points, the same amount of points as  Oderi Duke, who placed fourth on the tiebreak.

The last prize in the junior category went to David Rodrigues who managed to score  three points.

All five of the winners along with the two other junior participants who took part in the competition are from the Mackenzie High School.
Archer dominated the senior category with his unbeaten streak while Winslow Parris was second with five-and-a-half points in his seven rounds.

Benjamin Mc Bean took the final podium position in  the senior category with five points.
President of the GCF, Shiv Nanadalall said that the federation was very much pleased with the response received from the Lindeners towards the tournament and said that they are looking forward to hosting another competition in the mining town in the near future.

“The enthusiasm is there, you can see that the interest is there. We had about 15 players and we learnt that a lot of persons had wanted to come but they had other commitments.  So we are looking forward to holding another tournament up there soon,” Nandalall said.
