DCA names Shillingford in trimmed training squad

ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC – Embattled West Indies off-spinner Shane Shillingford is one of 17 players named by the Dominica Cricket Association to continue preparations for the Windward Islands Twenty20 Championship scheduled to be staged here later this month.

The right-armer was found to have an illegal bowling action and was suspended form bowling in international cricket late last year.

Shillingford, who has played five Tests, has been undergoing remedial work at the High Performance Centre in Barbados and is on the verge of a return to action.

Meanwhile, Windward Islands stand-in captain Liam Sebastien has also been included in the unit, which has been trimmed from the original 26 called up.

Also named in the squad is former West Indies A team player Jean Paul as well as hard-hitting batsman, Vincent Casimir.

A notable absentee from the squad is fast bowler Mervin Matthew, who is currently out of the country and is not available for selection.

The squad will be further cut to 13 in time for the May 26-29 tournament.
