BVA league competition for Reggie Goberdhan Memorial Trophy in full swing

The Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) league competition for the Reggie Goberdhan Memorial Trophy commenced last Sunday with two matches at various hardcourts in Berbice.
Rollers downed Falcons of Canje to win in a thrilling five-set encounter  3-2.

Rollers won 25-22, 26-28, 19-25, 26-24, 15-12 at the GTM hardcourt, while at the GTC/PM court Port Mourant Jaguars lost to GTC/PM 25-21,25-20,21-25, 25-9.

According to a press release, the league involves six teams, namely GTC/PM, Port Mourant Jaguars, Albion, Rollers, Eglets and Falcons.

GTC/PM, Port Mourant Jaguars and Albion have been classed in zone ‘A’ while Rollers, Eglets and Falcons were classed in zone ’B’ and will play each other three times in home and away matches over the next few months.

The final will be contested between the top teams in each zone on December 6, at the GTM hardcourt, when the family of the late Reggie Goberdhan is expected to be in the country to present the trophy and other incentives.

The late Goberdhan was an ardent supporter of the BVA during the late 1980s and played for the Avengers Volleyball Club of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, the release noted.

Meanwhile the BVA will be holding a competition for Schools (Boys & Girls) as part of Youth Week activities on May 27 at the Area H Court in Rose Hall Town.

The competition which is being sponsored by the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club is open to all schools in Berbice. Trophies and other incentives will be at stake.
