Guyana Softball League tournament reaches semifinals

Regal Mahaica Queens and Mahaica Princesses stormed into the female semifinals while D’ Edward SC booked the remaining male semifinal berth in the Regal Stationery and Computer Centre over-35 males 20/20 and females open 10/10 softball cricket tournament last weekend at various venues organized by the Guyana Softball League.

According to a press release, Regal Mahaica Queens of Upper East Coast, easily overcame a spirited Sunrise SC in their quarterfinal match played at the Everest Cricket Club Ground.

Mahaica Queens won the toss and asked the more seasoned campaigners, Sunrise SC, to take first strike, the release noted.

Sunrise SC then made a challenging score of 84 for 5 in their allotted 10 overs with Shavon Cornelius stroking 26 runs. She was supported by Shenika Chattergoon with 19 not out.

Bowling for Mahaica Queens, Pranita Singh, picked up 2 for 13 off her two overs.
In reply, Mahaica Queens found themselves in early trouble as Shavelene Stellingburg who used the wind to her advantage, took two wickets in her first over.

The level-headed Jasodra Singh along with Michelle De Young who played herself in before striking the ball fluently took their team to victory. The unbeaten partnership was worth 78 runs with Jasodra Singh ending on 28 and Michelle De Young on 20.

Shavelene Stellingburg eventually ended with 2 for 14 from two overs for the Sunrise SC females.
In the other female match-up Mahaica Princesses made it a good day for Upper East Coast as they made light work of the Berbice winners, Heavenly Angels.

After scoring 106, the Berbicians were tottering at 44 for 8 after eight overs but failed to recover to reach their set target which saw Mahaica Princesses advancing to the semifinal.

The male quarterfinal between D’ Edward SC and the Berbice winners, Max Master ‘A’  saw D’ Edward SC having an easy win through to the semifinal round as the Berbicians failed to show, handing D’ Edward SC a semifinal berth by walkover.    Meanwhile the quarterfinal match-up between Monar Institute and Cotton Field SC females will take place this weekend in Essequibo at a venue to be announced.
