Cotton Field Wild Oats among winners

Despite rain over the weekend, Cotton Field Wild Oats, Rising Star and Pomeroon Oil Mill still advanced to the next round of the countrywide Kares Tapeball competition of the Essequibo leg of the tournament.

Zone I finals in the Cinderella County saw Cotton Field Wild Oats playing Walton Hall at the Cotton Field Community Centre ground. Walton Hall batted first and made 101-6 in their allotted 10 overs which saw V. Lall top scoring with 45.

T. Simon took 2-16 from his two overs for Cotton Field Wild Oats. In reply, Cotton Field Wild oats reached  102-6 with R. Parasram contributing an unbeaten 39 while Lall returned with the ball to capture 3-8.

In Zone J, Rising Star defeated Die Hard by nine wickets. Batting first Die Hard made 64-8 (10). No batsman reached double figures but Rising Star’s bowler Rupan Sakain grabbed miserly figures of 4-6 from two overs.

In reply, Rising Star reached 66-1 in six overs with Inter-County batsman Norman Fredericks top scoring with 43.

In Zone K, Pomeroon Oil Mill made light work of the Charity Tigers. Charity Tigers batted first and made 38 all out; Sean Gilbert snared 3-9 for Pomeroon Oil Mill. In reply, Pomeroon Oil Mill made 39-1, Mukesh Singh contributing 22.

A trophy and $10,000 were presented to the respective winners.
Meanwhile, 16 zones are in the competition, which is winding down to the grand final in September. Each zone will produce a winner and each zone winner will  qualify for the super 16 stage.

These 16 teams will then be entered into the computer to produce the new fixtures straight to the finals to be played on September 4 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
