DDL, ANSA Mc Al, Digicel onboard with hockey festival

Digicel joined the roster of sponsors supporting the 7th Diamond Mineral Water International Hockey Festival, scheduled from December 8-11 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), when it was launched  yesterday at the GCC Pavilion.

This would have been the company’s second year but  the tournament was not held last year.  However, Advertising Manager Ramesh Sunich said that it was easy to commit to the tournament since the company has always been involved in sport locally and internationally. Ramesh also pledged the company’s continued support of the tournament.

Platinum sponsor Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), under its Diamond Mineral Water brand through their  representative Larry Wills said that the brand has always been associated with champions and sports in Guyana. He added that he is looking forward to the commencement of the tournament and urged everyone to have fun.

Wills lauded the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) for sustaining the tournament, stating also that they will organise another high level tournament. He urged all to come out and support the hockey championships, especially since it is a growing sport in the country.

Gold sponsor ANSA Mc Al’s PRO Darshanie Yussuf also said that the company is pleased to be associated with the tournament and it keeps supporting the event because the tournament has young people involved.

She also highlighted  the skills of the players, noting that it is important that the company keeps aiding in their development.

Meanwhile, the winner of the male and female tournament will receive US$1,000 while the runners-up will take home US$500. In the veteran category the winners will pocket US$500.

According to President of the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) Philip Fernandes, so far eight overseas teams have confirmed their participation with Trinidad & Tobago sending six teams, one from Barbados and a team from Canada.
