Nigel Bryan key to Business School retaining table ennis title

National junior table tennis champion Nigel Bryan will seek to ensure that The Business School retains its Schools Nationals Table Tennis Championships when the Guyana Table Tennis Association Schools championships bounce off today at Queen’s College Auditorium from 16:00hrs.

Bryan, who was at the forefront of The Business School’s 3-1 dubbing of Bishops’ High School last year in the finals told Stabroek Sport that he is ready and fit to deliver for his school again.

“I feel very well prepared because I have been working hard for about a month and a half now, so I’m confident and I should have nothing to worry about,” Bryan stated.

Bryan, in the telephone interview with Stabroek Sport, also gave some insight into the type of preparations he has been doing for the competition.

“Well for the past month and a half I have been doing a lot of physical and strengthening work, so now basically I’m doing a lot of table work, being more tactical in my training since competition is around the corner,” he explained.

The under-21 bronze medallist in the 2011 Caribbean Championships expressed confidence in his team’s chances of winning back-to-back titles.

“Yeah we won the competition against Bishops’ last year and I believe we can do it again. My teammate (Sunil Logan) is very strong as well and I don’t know what format the team competition might take but he can play good doubles tennis as well,” Bryan stated.

The junior champion who will also feature in next month’s national championships concluded that he will be looking at the schools championships as a warm-up to the national championships next month.

“My main aim is to get in form in time for Nationals and a win at the schools level will help my momentum going into Nationals so it’s important for me to do well in the tournament,” Bryan told Stabroek Sport.

He concluded that he is focused and wants to prove that he is still the best junior by winning the schools championships for his school.
