Diamond 50-mile cycle race on today

The 12th Annual Diamond Mineral Water 50-Mile Cycle Road Race will pedal off today to close national cycling coach, Hassan Mohamed’s events for the year 2011.

The race will start from Wales Police Station at 09:00 hrs; proceed to Bushy Park and end at the Demerara Harbour Bridge.

The veteran and upright cyclists will turn back at Uitvlugt Community Centre and finish at the Harbour Bridge.

The race is open to all racing cyclists, veteran, juniors, seniors, upright and ladies.

The first six senior finishers will receive prizes along with the first three juniors, veterans and upright cyclists. The first female and veteran over 60 years will each receive a prize.

Eight prime prizes will be up for grabs during the course of the race.

Representative from Demerara Distillers Limited sole distributor for Diamond Mineral Water Choice of Champions will distribute the prizes to the winning participants.

Last year’s winners were Walter Grant Stuart – 1 hr/58 mins/22 secs; for juniors – Paul De Nobrega; for veterans – Kennard Lovell; for upright – Nigel Jacobs.
