Taffin Khan almost assured of retaining chess crown

National chess champion Taffin Khan is almost assured of retaining his title when the final two rounds of the competition are held this Saturday at the Ocean Spray International Hotel.

Khan, bounced back from his defeat to Maria Thomas on Saturday to defeat Rashad Hussain and Saeed Ali when the 11th and 12th rounds of the competition were held yesterday at the same venue.

He is down to face Anthony Drayton and Suhai Feng in his remaining two matches this weekend knowing that a draw will be enough to see him win back-to-back national chess crowns.

Khan is trailed by Thomas who defeated Frankie Farley yesterday morning before being held to a draw by Hussain the afternoon session.
In other results yesterday morning national junior champion Suhai Feng defeated Ali but lost to Drayton while Glenford Corlette and Drayton drew their encounter.

The points standings so far are Khan, 11 points, Thomas, nine, Farley, eight, Drayton, six,  Ali and Hussain four points each, Corlette, three and one half and Feng one and a half.

Feng has missed 10 of the 12 rounds completed so far while Hussain has missed four.
