Division in DCB not healthy

—Chetram Singh

Outgoing president of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Chetram Singh hopes that the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) executive resolves its issues before elections on Saturday.

More especially Singh wants the two factions of the body to put aside their differences before the January 30 GCB Annual General Meeting where a new executive will be elected.

Singh told Stabroek Sport yesterday that he wants a “smooth transition” after the January 30 polls.

It is also Singh’s wish to not serve in any official capacity on the GCB, which is also a divided institution.

He noted, however, that if he is asked he would consent to serving in an advisory role.

Singh believes that the division is not healthy for the game and  said the same persons at loggerheads in the DCB are the same persons that are partially responsible for the division in the governing body.

Chief Justice Ian Chang has ordered Secretary of the DCB Rajendra Singh not to convene any meeting of the Executive Committee of the DCB without the instruction and approval of the President, Bissondyal Singh, until January 21, when the matter will be heard again at 15:00 hours.

The order came after one faction of the DCB, headed by Vice President Anand Sanasie, convened a meeting on Tuesday where the venue for the elections was decided.

At Monday’s Special General Meeting of the DCB the Georgetown Cricket Club pavilion (GCC) and the Lusignan Community Centre ground were identified.

However, at Tuesday’s meeting it was announced that the AGM would be held at the Wales Community Centre ground since the executive had voted in favour of that venue on Monday.

This development forced president of the DCB Bissoondyal Singh to move to the court to ensure that the AGM would be held at Lusignan since it was later found out that the GCC venue will not be available.

According to Bissoondyal Singh, elections are scheduled for January 22 at the Lusignan Ground and not the Wales Community Centre as reported in another section of the press.

The agenda should include election of office bearers, treasurer’s report; associations’ reports other key aspects of the DCB’s operations.

According to the notice, East Bank Cricket Association (EBDCA), East Coast Demerara Cricket Association (ECDCA) and West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) will have 14 delegates each while Georgetown Cricket Association will have 10 delegates. The original number for delegates was GCA, 10, WDCA, 11, ECDCA, 16, and EBDCA, 10.
