Berbice board PRO: Cricket administrators must stop infighting

Public Relations Officer of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) and Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sport Club, Hilbert Foster is appealing to cricket administrators in Guyana to stop the current infighting, which he describes as “profound madness”.

Foster’s comments were made while speaking at the BCB annual appreciation luncheon to an audience that included Guyana Cricket Board President Chetram Singh, Demerara Cricket Board President Bissoondyal Singh, Georgetown Cricket Association President Roger Harper, Chairman of National Selectors Claude Raphael and other leading cricket administrators.

In a release from the BCB it was noted that Foster described the situation as “profound madness” and challenged everyone to put cricket and cricketers first and to stop looking after personal ambitions and power status.

The release stated that Foster has dedicated more than half of his life to cricket administration but for the first time he was feeling disappointed about it.

Cricket in Guyana, he noted, needs committed, visionary and disciplined leadership and leaders who would be role models and mentors to all cricketers.

According to the release Foster stated that he was tired of hearing about court injunctions, personal attacks and an unending quest for power.

“He called on others to follow the example set by Berbice Cricket Board where unbelievable success and progress has been achieved by following a simple formula of sheer hard work, unity, team work, visionary and forward planning and a strong desire to make a positive difference,” the release stated.

Foster disclosed that over the last three years he was involved in the BCB there was never one incident of infighting and he challenged everyone involved to work together for the development of the game.

“The administration of Guyana’s cricket has been thrown in turmoil with well publicised internal fighting and allegations of corruption and power grabbing and this Foster warned would result in everyone being painted with a broad brush and would result in sponsors staying far away from the game,” the release noted.
