Pereira leads Rose Hall into semi-finals

A brilliant 115 not out from national Under-15 captain and all rounder Shawn Pereira led his team, Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes, to a crushing 138 runs victory over Police in the quarterfinals of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB)/Tenelec Inc. Under-15 Inter-club Tournament last weekend.

Playing at the area ‘H’ Ground at Rose Hall, Pereira struck 14 delightful boundaries and a massive six as he guided his team to a solid 285 for 6 off their allotted 45 overs.

Taking first strike after winning the toss, the defending Berbice Under-15 champions batted solidly throughout their innings with Pereira receiving support from fellow national Under-15 player Parmanand Narine 45, Daniel Lewis 35 and opener Nicholas Cameron 15.

Bowling for Police, Leon Mickle claimed two wickets for 71 runs from his nine overs while there was a wicket each for Leon Andrews, E. Shultz and R. Barrington.

In reply Police were never allowed to dominate the all spin attack of the home team as they were bowled out for 147 in 39.2 overs.

Shemroy Mc Kenzie top scored with a polished 39 and received support from C. Lindie 19 and N. Khubeer 14 not out.

Bowling for Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes team, left-arm spinner Kumar Madray took 2 wickets for 16 runs, leg spinner Brandon Prashad 2 for 24 and 13-year-old female off spinner Phaffiana Millington, 2 for 17. At the Albion Community Centre, D’Edward Cricket club upset Port Mourant Cricket Club by five wickets.

Batting first after winning the toss, Port Mourant found themselves in deep trouble at 44 for 6 after 16 overs as medium pacer Marlon Deputron, who took 2 for 19 off his nine overs and off spinner Derick Narine Jnr. (3 for 17 in eight overs) created havoc.

A seventh wicket 54 runs partnership between Manoj Looknauth 41 and Ryan Ramdass 10 carried them to 98 for 6 before the last four wickets fell for just four runs as Port Mourant was dismissed for a disappointing 102 off 37.4 overs.

Medium pacer Kevin Jawahir supported Deputron and Narine with excellent figures of 7.4-2-15-4.

D’Edward, in reply, lost Daniel Harrinarine, bowled by medium pacer Yogindra Rambarran for four at 11 for 1 in the second over.

Opener Nick Ramsaroop and Narine then posted 42 runs for the second wicket before Ramsaroop fell for 23. Narine (29) and Deputron (20) batted well to take their team to a comfortable victory in the 23rd over at 105 for 5. Bowling for Port Mourant, Rambarran took two wickets for 22 runs off three overs, while N. Budhram took two for 25 off six overs.

D’Edward will now clash with Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes at the Area ‘H’ Ground in the semi-final.

The final is scheduled for next week at a venue to be named.
