Sehwag doubtful for Windies series

NEW DELHI, India, CMC – A shoulder injury seems poised to rule dashing opener Virender Sehwag out of next month’s tour of the Caribbean.

The 32-year-old right-hander has opted to have surgery on his right shoulder and could be sidelined for up to eight weeks, effectively ruling him out of the series against West Indies beginning June 4.

India are scheduled to play one Twenty20 International, five one-dayers and three Tests against West Indies.

The injury will also cause Sehwag to miss the rest of the Indian Premier League season with Delhi Daredevils.

“We will miss Virender Sehwag as he has been the pillar for Daredevils. But we also know how important it is for Sehwag to get the surgery done and be fit for future matches,” Daredevils director PB Vanchi said in a statement.

“We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he will soon be back in action for both Daredevils and India.”

Sehwag is expected to head to London now for the operation which could also see him miss the England tour following the series against West Indies.

He is India’s leading Test opener, averaging 53 from 87 matches with 7694 runs.
