Chanderpaul on verge of breaking caps record

Veteran batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul is well poised to tory when he takes the field against India today for the third and final test match for the Digicel home series.

Chanderpaul, 36, surpassed multiple world record holder Brian Lara’s total of 131 caps during the Bridgetown Test last week to go level with former fast bowler Courtney Walsh on 132.

While the pair is tied for 11th place on the all time list along with former Indian off spinner Anil Kumble, India’s batting great Sachin Tendulkar currently boasts the most Tests of any player with 177 from 1989 to the present.

He is followed by former Australian captains Steve Waugh (168) and Allan Border (156) and teammate Rahul Dravid (152).

Since his debut in 1994, Chanderpaul has amassed 9228 runs at an average of 48.56 with 22 centuries  and 55 fifties. He is also 10th on the format’s all time list of run scorers.
