Georgetown women record 37-run victory over East Bank

Georgetown recorded a 37-run victory over East Coast in the 2nd round of the 2011 Female Inter-Association 50-overs Cricket Tournament at Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) Ground yesterday. Batting first the Georgetown side now under the supervision of former Guyana Under-19 and Under-15 coach Daniel Richmond, was bowled out for 190 off the last delivery of the allotted 50 overs.

Opener Onika Wallerson and number four batter Jocell Joseph who scored 55 and 29 respectively en route to sharing a 84-run 3rd wicket partnership, led the way with the bat for the Georgetown ladies.  Extras also made a significant contribution as has been the norm in women’s cricket with a 50.

Leanna Harris and Jonnette Richie claimed the best bowling honours for the East Bank ladies with 3 for 36 and 2 for 41 respectively. East Bank in reply were bowled out losing eight wickets, given that only 10 players showed up, for 153 in 45.5 overs with opener June Ogle Thomas batting through her team’s innings for an unbeaten 72.

Right arm medium pacer Nicola Leverock was the pick of the Georgetown bowlers with 4 wickets.

The competition continues today with a double header with  West Demerara vs Georgetown at DCC and East Coast vs East Bank at Police Sports Club, Eve Leary scheduled to commence at 9.30 am respectively.
