The annual pre-Phagwah Mela and Bazaar which is hosted by the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha is on today at the Dharmic Sanskritik Kendra in Prashad Nagar.
For years the Mela has been attracting crowds and this year it promises to deliver more in entertainment with performances by the talented Dharmic Nritya Sangh of Naya Zamana fame; fashion and music by celebrated Guyanese singers Sookrane Boodhoo, Rekha Singh, Mona and Krishna Mandata among others.
A press release from the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha stressed that the event is family oriented, and in addition to entertainment, there would be range of activities and foods to sample from.
Dharmendra Gobin and his Caribbean Hotshots band will provide lively accompaniment, the release said, adding that young “emerging voices” singers Suchitra Rampersaud, Vidya Ram and Aarti Sukhdeo are scheduled to sing some of the latest Bollywood hits at the event.
“No one should miss this grand prelude to Phagwah – a perfect blend of tasty vegetarian dishes and sweets, dynamic and outstanding entertainment and diverse activities for every member of the family, give-aways,” the release stated.
No alcohol would be allowed at the event which begins at 4 pm. Tickets are adults $400 and children $100.
