Tribute to Clive Lloyd featured in poetry volume

Local poet, Aaron Blackman, popularly known as ‘Ras Aaron’ is set to launch a collection of poems in which he pays special tribute to Guyanese and former West Indies cricket icon Clive Lloyd.

Ras Aaron told The Scene recently that the collection of poems, which is titled Revelation pon Creation – Part 1 will be launched at the Upscale Restaurant on Tuesday November 1 at 7 pm. He said it promises to be a spectacle as there will be dramatic poetic presentations to light up the evening.

Ras Aaron said the poems in the book span a period of 26 years, and they touch on social, economic, cultural, political and spiritual issues. He said a special focus is placed on youth and community development.

In his collection, Ras Aaron pays special tribute to Lloyd whom he considers a legend and genius “who with his team ruled world cricket for almost two decades and must be recognized as the most successful cricket captain ever”.

Ras Aaron, who has been involved in the arts for a number of years, began writing poetry in 1984 while working as a miner or as he calls it, a ‘porkknocker’, in the Potaro River in Guyana’s hinterland. He has received credible mention from the organizers of the Guyana Prize for Literature for submissions he made in his early years as a poet. He has also performed and showcased his poetic skills at various venues locally and across the Caribbean.
