Four murders in T&T’s Laventille in just over a day

(Trinidad Express) Yet another murder has been recorded in the Laventille area, bringing to four the total number of people to be killed in the crime hotspot in just over 24 hours.

The latest victim has been identified as 29-year-old Marvin Jordan, of New City Avenue, Fyzabad.

Investigators said Jordan had moved in with friends at Kerr Road, Eastern Quarry, Laventille, two weeks ago. However, yesterday around 2 a.m., two masked men armed with guns stormed their home and bundled Jordan into a waiting vehicle before speeding off, police said.

Officers said it was not until around 6 a.m. that residents in the area stumbled upon Jordan’s bullet-riddled body in a drain behind the Success Laventille Secondary School, about half a mile from where he was snatched.

Officers from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Besson Street Police Station, Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) and Port of Spain Criminal Investigations Department (CID) visited the scene and carried out enquiries.

His killing, along with that of 43-year-old Sean Lewis in Fyzabad, has carried the country’s murder toll for the year so far to 208, according to an Express tally.

Asked if Jordan’s murder may have been a reprisal for Monday night’s triple homicide at Subrian Place, East Dry River, police investigators said, they did not wish to speculate since they are uncertain if he was involved in a life of crime.

“We cannot say at this time what was the motive for the killing because we do not know who he is. He is from outside of the Port of Spain Division so we would have to make some checks to determine what type of life he lived and then we may be able to say what the motive was,” said one officer.

Around 10.45 p.m. on Monday, Jerome Pierre, 25, and brothers Khalif Gomez, 22, and Ishmael Jackson, 21, were all killed shortly after leaving a birthday party in the area.

They were approached by four gunmen who opened fire, hitting them multiple times, killing them all on the spot.

Ricardo Duncan, 23, who was also in the company of the brothers, was also shot in the leg and abdomen and remains warded at the Port of Spain General Hospital in a stable condition.

A fifth man escaped unhurt.

Investigations are continuing.
