Agony as Foster-Hylton crashes out of hurdles

(Jamaica Gleaner) There was a double blow for Jamaica in the 100m hurdles heats this morning, as World Champion Brigitte Foster-Hylton crashed out of the race after hitting hurdle five.

Foster who was leading the field up to the point of the incident, recovered after stumbling but only managed to place seventh.

A tearful Foster-Hylton threw herself to ground in rage that she didn’t qualify.

Earlier, another Jamaican hurdler, Latoya Greaves, was pulled from heat two of the event because of injury.

The injury is believed to be hip-related.

President of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association, Dr Warren Blake, said the injury appeared to be a side strain.

It is not clear when and how it happened.

This is Greaves’ first Olympics after finishing second at the Jamaican trial.

In the meantime, Jamaican Shermaine Williams has qualified for the hurdles semis as one of the fastest losers after posting 13.07 seconds.
