Record haul for Caribbean at Olympics

(Barbados Nation) Olympic fever in Barbados and the Caribbean reached a climax yesterday with a record feat and record haul of medals at the London Games.

When Usain Bolt crossed the finish line yesterday to lead Jamaica to a smashing new world record of 36.84 seconds in the men’s 4×100 metres relay, the tally officially stood at 18 – surpassing the 15 in Beijing four years ago for the English-speaking Caribbean – comprising seven gold, four silver and seven bronze.

Jamaica dominated the haul with 12, four of each kind and several records at the World, Olympic and national level.

Trinidad and Tobago ended their Olympics with three bronze and one surprise gold medal in the men’s javelin yesterday by 19-year-old Keshorn Walcott, CARIFTA Games Under-20 and World Junior champion.
