Nicki Minaj strains vocal cords

(Trinidad Express) Trinidad-born hip-hop artiste Nicki Minaj cancelled her appearance at yesterday’s V Festival in the United Kingdom because of damage to her vocal cords.

Her record label representative said in an e-mail that Minaj was forced to back out of her shows on Saturday and Sunday because of “strained vocal cords.”

Minaj performed a free concert in New York City on Wednesday, though she had been advised by her doctor to rest. This caused the problem to worsen and recent X-rays led to doctors informing the singer/rapper that she must rest her voice for a few days or risk further, even longstanding damage.

The two-day V Festival also featured major acts including The Killers, David Guetta, LMFAO and The Stone Roses.

At the Wednesday show, Minaj performed for more than two hours and at moments was joined on stage by Drake, Lil Wayne and fellow Trinidadian Foxy Brown. Minaj recently filmed the music video for her current single, “Pound The Alarm” in Trinidad and Tobago.

The video featured a mini Carnival parade with costumed masqueraders and included traditional mas and cameo appearances by Machel Montano and Bunji Garlin.
