Queenstown man dies on boat after boom falls

Police say that investigations are being conducted into the circumstances surrounding the death of Vibert Fernandes, 60 years, of Queenstown, Essequibo Coast, which occurred at about 0025h. today on the M.V Sairland in the Demerara River.

Police say that investigations revealed that a crew member was operating an excavator aboard the vessel when the machine malfunctioned causing the boom to fall. The boom fell onto a piece of wood which was thrown into the air and struck Fernandes. He later succumbed.

The body is at the Lyken Funeral Home awaiting a PME.
