Pakistani businessman ordered deported from Jamaica

(Jamaica Gleaner) Sohail Muhammad Siddiq, the 41-year-old Pakistani businessman who pleaded guilty to breaching the Customs Act and failing to declare €$314,000 (approximately J$36 million), has been fined J$10,000 or three months’ imprisonment.

Senior Resident Magistrate Georgianna Fraser also ordered that Siddiq be deported.

Siddiq, who is also an American citizen, had arrived in the island on September 4. When he was held with the money, he said he came to Jamaica to purchase cellphones and computers.

Siddiq also told the police that he came to the island some time ago and did research to ascertain if it would be profitable for him to purchase the goods here.

Siddiq, who lives in Pakistan, had arrived in the island on a flight from Panama on a trip originating from Dubai.
