Woman shot in Corentyne armed robbery

Police are investigating an armed robbery at Anchorville, Port Mourant, Corentyne which took place last night during which a woman was shot and injured. Two men are in police custody assisting with investigations.

The injured woman who was identified by police as Rookmin Beharry aged 39 years who was treated at the Port Mourant Hospital and sent away. She was hit in her chest by pellets which were discharged by a shotgun that one of the bandits was carrying.

According to a release issued this afternoon, around 2245 hours, five men, one of whom was armed with a shotgun, broke through a window and into the home of Mohabir Paras aged 35 years, at Anchorville, Port Mourant, Corentyne, and held him up along with his reputed wife Sunita Beir aged 31 years.

 The perpetrators assaulted both victims and took away a quantity of jewellery, a cell phone and $10,000 and escaped.

The release added that during the robbery the armed man discharged rounds from the verandah of the building and Beharry who resides nearby was struck.
