Miner stabbed at Mahdia, recuperating

A 28-year-old miner was attacked and stabbed by a group of men at Mahdia, around 10 pm on Thursday as he was walking along the Public Road.

Injured and currently a patient of the Male Surgical Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital is Albertson Daniels of Lethem, who was stabbed to the left abdomen and beaten in his head.

He was complaining of severe pain in the abdomen when this news paper visited him at the hospital yesterday.

In relating the incident, Daniels said he went to a shop to purchase some items and was heading back in the direction of his employer’s camp, when he passed a group of men on the road.

He said the men then passed him and subsequently turned back and attacked him.

The injured man said the men lashed him in his head and stabbed him before fleeing the scene.

He added that the men did not take anything from his person even though he had a large sum of cash on him.

Daniels was then picked up by his employer and rushed to the hospital but was later transferred to the city for further medical attention.

The police are currently investigating the matter.
