The Guyana National Museum on Thursday opened its annual “Indentureship Exhibition,” in observance of Arrival Day. This year’s exhibition is being hosted under the theme “Celebrating Indentureship 177 years.” According to acting administrator of the museum Priya Singh, the goal is to highlight the cultural impact of indentured immigrants to Guyana and to promote cultural diversity among all. In this vein, the museum is hoping the public and schools take full advantage of the exhibition and at the same time gain a better knowledge of their heritage and the country’s history. The exhibition highlights features from all the different local cultures, ranging from food to clothing to living conditions, and records of crafts, games, among other things. In this Anjuli Persaud photo, visitors to the museum are viewing a clothing display, which is part of the exhibition. The exhibition will run until May 20, 2012. It is opened between 9am and 4pm daily and admission is free.
