Triplets born at GPH

Triplets were born to a young mother this afternoon at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Three baby girls were born to Saskia Richards, 22, of Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara, who was admitted to the GPH’s Prenatal Ward today at 1pm, a statement from the hospital’ public relations office said.

The first of the triplets was delivered via a caesarean section at 1:48pm, while the two other babies were delivered a minute apart afterwards. They weighed 1.5kg, 1.5kg and 1.6kg, respectively.

The hospital said Richards is now resting comfortably in the Maternity Theater’s Recovery Room, while the three babies are receiving care in GPH’s newly refurbished Neonatal Unit.

“Both parents are extremely happy and management of the GPHC and the staff of the Maternity Unit are proud of yet another momentous occasion in maternal health care,” the hospital added.
