Jamaica man accused of rape beaten to death by mob

(Jamaica Gleaner) A man accused of being a rapist was beaten and stabbed to death by an angry mob in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, yesterday.

He has been identified as 27-year-old Michael McKenzie of Maryland District, also in St Andrew.

The Half-Way Tree Police reports that shortly after 6 p.m. McKenzie was at the Clock Tower Plaza when he was attacked by a group of about 20 men armed with knives and batons.

He was beaten and stabbed repeatedly before the police were alerted.

When the police arrived, McKenzie was found suffering from multiple stab wounds and was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
