Malfunctioning trucks, dumping plaguing City Council

The Mayor and City Council (MCC) said the disruption of the collection of garbage from South Ruimveldt, Cummings Lodge and other areas is due to difficulties Cevon’s Waste Management has been experiencing with its fleet of vehicles.

In a press release, the MCC said residents in Agricola, McDoom and East Ruimveldt have also been affected. The council said it understands the frustration the public has been experiencing due to these delays but it is “doing its best” to ensure that the situation is soon rectified. The collection system in Georgetown remains on schedule.

Meanwhile, the MCC condemns the wanton dumping of refuse onto parapets, reserves and public thoroughfares. Dumping is illegal, it said, adding that persons can be fined $10,000 for this act. As such, it is appealing to all citizens to resist the temptation to dump refuse and instead, urges those affected by the disruption of the collection service to bury their garbage.
