Journalist Rawle Toney charged with assaulting son’s mother, grandmother

Journalist Rawle Toney, who allegedly abused the mother of his child and assaulted her mother was yesterday placed on self bail on both charges after he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

According to the charge, on December 14, at Louisa Row Georgetown, Toney used abusive language to Claudia Osborne occasioning a breach of the peace.

It is further alleged that on the same day the man unlawfully assaulted Johan Osbourne.

Toney pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ court.

In presenting the police facts, prosecutor Jairam Luckhai told the court that on the day, the VC attended a function at their son’s school where the accused was also present. He added that an argument ensued and the two parties had a heated exchange of words.

As a result, the man grabbed the woman and the sunshades she was wearing at the time was destroyed during the scuffle, the prosecution said.

The prosecutor further related that the VC’s mother, who saw what occurred, intervened.

However she was also abused by the defendant.

The magistrate placed all three on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the mater.

The case will be called again on January 30.
