Diamond Housing Scheme votes were split mainly between PPP/C, APNU

The two main political parties got significant numbers of votes at Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara in the last elections.

A perusal of electronic copies of the Statements of Poll provided to the political parties by GECOM revealed that at 11 polling stations located at the Diamond Secondary School and two polling stations located at the Diamond Primary School, the PPP/C got the most votes (1443) followed by APNU (1005) and then the AFC with 272 votes.

Diamond is the flagship housing scheme of the PPP/C with thousands of people and rapidly expanding.

Thousands of house lots have been handed out by the PPP/C and views were expressed that it could have helped the PPP/C to mount a strong challenge in Region 4.

Attempts by Stabroek News to gather the data from the statements of poll posted up at the school after the November 28 general elections had failed. After the close of poll police and security guards had told a Stabroek News reporter that entry would not be permitted. For several days after, the reporter – who is a resident of the scheme – was denied access to the compound to check the results posted up outside the various stations.

The results posted up at the station are meant to be available for public inspection.

However, access at various polling stations was denied to SN reporters by security guards.
