NY-based Guyanese loses kidney after being shot in robbery

A New York-based Guyanese has lost his kidney after he was shot in a late night robbery on Monday at Savage Street, North Ruimveldt.

Felix Alleyne, 37, who resides in Staten Island, New York, US, is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he had his kidney removed. He remains a patient at the institution, with the bullet still lodged in his spine. Alleyne, who came to Guyana for a vacation on December 22, was shot and robbed by three gunmen at his friend’s shop.

The man, who was staying at Paradise, East Coast Demerara, said that he usually hung out at his friend’s shop in North-East Ruimveldt. On Monday night, he said, at about 10pm, three men held him up outside the shop and told him “don’t move.”

The men then shot him in his lower left abdomen and took away his gold chain and made good their escape. He was quickly rushed to the hospital by his friend.

Alleyne was planning to return the United States on Friday but will have to extend his stay because of his injuries.
