Eroded Timehri road repaired

The eroded Timehri main road has now been filled, after Minister of Transport Robeson Benn intervened and measures are being put in place to ensure that there is no recurrence.

The side of the Timehri main road that was filled and repaired after erosion.

Minister Benn said that he was only aware of the situation after it was highlighted in Tuesday’s edition of Stabroek News and he immediately called the contractor, who took care of it.

A resident Patrick (only name given) had told this newspaper that the sides of the road were being eroded because of a drain that was dug to facilitate the highway expansion project.

Yesterday, he said that now the sides have been filled, it is still unclear why digging was continuing if the authorities did not plan to start building the road now.

The culvert, which was one of the main drainage sources for water, is blocked by the sand that was dug up to facilitate the highway expansion project.

He added that water has nowhere to drain because the culvert has been blocked up with the sand that has been dug to facilitate the highway expansion.

Patrick also said that there is a utility pole that is leaning dangerously and GPL planted another pole on the opposite side of the road and ran a wire from the slanting pole to the new pole so that they can support each other.

However, he is of the view that the pole will fall at anytime.

The leaning utility pole that residents fear poses a risk.
