Dharmic Naujawaan charity drive benefits over 100 at Farm, Herstelling

Children living in the Farm/Herstelling River Dam area recently benefited from school supplies, food hampers and toys among other items when the Dharmic Naujawaan, the youth arm of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha visited the area.

In the group’s first charity drive for the year on January 29 over 100 children benefited from goodie bags, school bags, school supplies, toys, books and clothes and over 50 adults received food hampers.

A release from the Dharmic Naujawaan said that the reaction from those who were assisted was enough to make the journey worth it even though it rained heavily. The release stated that over the years the youth group has played an active role in assisting those in need, regardless of their religious beliefs.

According the release the objective of the charity drive it not only to provide for those less fortunate, but also to provide items that would enable and encourage children to attend school as well as empower adults to facilitate this process. The youth group hopes that the drive will, in some small way, improve their daily lives.

Meanwhile, the Naujawaan invites the public to take a look at some of the items, children and activities for the day via their album “DNJ Events 2012 at https://www.facebook.com/ groups/dharmicyouths/.
