GTA welcomes Vista Mar cruise liner to Guyana

The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and Wilderness Explorers joined members of the media to welcome internationally-known cruise liner the Vista Mar to Guyana on Sunday morning.

The ship docked at the Guyana National Shipping Corporation wharf with over 200 passengers and 103 crew members, a press release from the Government Information Agency said.

GTA Director Indranauth Haralsingh welcomed the captain and crew to Guyana, adding that he was pleased that the vessel had made a second visit here as it was a boon for local tourism. “We are very glad that the vessel has chosen Guyana again…what we would like to see in the future is more longer visits by the vessel to Guyana so that visitors can have the opportunity to see much more of Guyana, than just its capital city,” he said. The director also highlighted some of the many exciting adventures that Guyana has to offer.

Haralsingh noted that many more cruise ships are docking in Guyana annually and another internationally-known ship the Clipper’s Adventure will be docking in Guyana in March. General Manager of Wilderness Explorers Teri O’Brien was also there to welcome the passengers, GINA noted.

Captain of the Vista Mar Alfio Bizzi said that it was his first visit to Guyana and he is looking forward to returning in the near future. The passengers were treated to steel pan music, local dishes and arts and craft as they disembarked the ship to tour the City.

The Vista Mar first arrived in Guyana in 2010. The ship started its voyage on January 27 from Manaus, Brazil. Last year five internationally-known cruise liners docked in Guyana.
