Miner remanded over house break-in at Kamarang

A 20-year-old man who allegedly broke and entered  the home of another man and stole raw gold and cash valued in excess of $185,000 was on Tuesday remanded to prison after he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that on February 2 at Kamarang, Essequibo the accused Regon David broke and entered the dwelling house of Ryan Simmons and stole nine pennyweights of raw gold along with $54,000, a total   value of $189,000.

The man was not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to him by Magistrate Hazel Octave–Hamilton.

No facts were presented to the court by the prosecution on what had transpired on the day of the incident.

The prosecution objected to bail for the miner on the grounds that he was a flight risk.

The magistrate ruled in favour of the prosecution and bail was denied to the accused.

The matter will be called again on March 19.
