Zeelugt family robbed of $7M

The police say they are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 1110h today at Zeelugt, EBE, during which businessman Harold Ramroop, 47 years, was attacked and robbed by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

Police say that investigations revealed that Ramroop was in his grocery shop when the perpetrators entered and held him at gunpoint, along with his wife and son.

According to the police, one of the men then took the wife upstairs where she was reportedly forced to  hand over jewellery valued at $5 million and $2 million.  A quantity of cell phone cards were also taken away by the men who escaped in a waiting motor car.

The attack comes a day after an Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara family was robbed of $8M.
