Man stole gold chain from woman in minibus – court told

A man accused of stealing a $65,000 gold chain from a woman was yesterday placed on $150,000 bail after he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer the charge of larceny from the person.

The court heard that on February 17, Deon Granville stole one gold chain from the person of Marcia Williams. The unrepresented man was not required to plead to the charge after it was read to him.

No facts were presented to the court on what had transpired on the day of the incident. Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. He also told the court that the article was found on the accused after he was apprehended by public-spirited citizens. He added that the VC was sitting in a minibus at the time of the incident.

The magistrate overruled the prosecution’s application and the man who resides at Lot 1 East Ruimveldt Squatting Area was placed on $150,000 bail.
The matter will be called again on March 15 at Court One.
