Corriverton labourer jailed for break and enter

A Corriverton labourer, who pleaded guilty to charges of break and enter and larceny was yesterday sentenced to two years imprisonment when he appeared at the Springlands court.

The court heard that between February 19 and 20, Mahendra Harold, 39, a labourer of Kingston Squatting Area, Corriverton broke into the home of Yudheishthir Drepaul and stole a quantity of articles valued $31,000.

Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Michael Grant told the court that the virtual complainant secured his home around 5:40 pm on February 19 and left for work.

When he returned around 4:45 the following morning he discovered that the eastern window to his house was wrenched open and subsequently discovered the articles missing.

He made a report to the Springlands Police Station and acting on information, the defendant was arrested and some of the articles recovered.

He begged the magistrate for “mercy” and promised Magistrate Krishndat Persaud that he “would not to do it again.”
