Pomeroon man fined $800,000 over illegal fuel

The Guyana Energy Agency, on January 13, through Special Prosecutor, Attorney-at-Law, Gino Persaud, secured a conviction against Delon Prashad at the Charity Magistrate’s Court in a ruling handed down by Magistrate Leron Daly.

Prashad of Abram’s Creek, Pomeroon River was charged with being in possession of 170 gallons of illegal gasoline. He was subsequently fined $800,000 or imprisonment for a period of one year.

At the time the decision was handed down by the magistrate, the defendant was not present in court as the prosecution was permitted to proceed ex- parte after Prashad failed to be present on previous occasions. He had originally appeared, pleaded not guilty and was placed on bail. His bail was subsequently forfeited after he stopped attending court.
