New contracts awarded for Amaila Falls road

Cabinet offered ‘no objection’ to four multi-million-dollar contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of the Amaila Falls access road, months after axing contractor Fip Motilall from the project.

Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon made this announcement at his post-Cabinet briefing on Wednesday, the Government Information Agency (GINA) said.

The contract for section three of the road is valued $373.2M; section four, $246.003M; section five, $182.35M; and section six, $281.72M.

In January, the government announced that it had terminated the Amaila Falls access road contract with the Motilall-run Synergy Holdings Inc, citing the contractor’s failure to meet deadlines. The US$15.4 million contract awarded to Synergy had been at the subject of immense criticism, with questions being raised about the company’s ability to construct roads and to complete large projects.
